The Security of a Cyclist's Separation from Automobile Traffic

Michael Carmody passed on another news item on YouTube: a new kind of separated bike lane in Seattle. Would parts of that work in places here?

No. It's a major street overhaul, and the expense won't be approved. A better solution is the "road diet." The road diet lessens the number of lanes on big streets, which provides more cycling space and also, believe it or not, increases car usage by improving traffic flow.
